Get the scoop on how to come ready to your first dance lesson

Congratulations! You've signed up for dance lessons and have taken the first step in your dance journey.

Here is what to expect for your first lesson:

What to wear

“Be comfortable.”

No leotard and tights necessary. Wear clothes that you feel comfortable moving in. For partner dance lessons, it's no problem to wear jeans and a T-shirt. For more intricate choreography, you might bust out your athleisure wear--then again, you probably already have it on anyway.

Street shoes are usually not permitted in dance studios in order to protect the floors. You can bring dance shoes if you have them, but it's totally fine to dance in socks. In fact, it helps to make less of an impact if you step on your partner's toes!

For brides, it can be helpful in later lessons to bring a full skirt to practice in if a full-skirted dress is planned for the big day, but don't worry about it for your first lesson. Brides and grooms will also want to practice in the shoes they plan to wear to be extra prepared for their first dance.

When to show up

"Be on time."

Studios rent time in precise increments, so it is helpful to be on time to make the most of your lesson.

It can be tricky to find parking by ODC Dance in the Mission, so plan on getting there early.

What to do

“Be you.”

Your dance moment is all about you. If you have any thoughts on what you're looking for, let me know. If something doesn't feel right, let me know. If something is tricky, let's work on it together. I want you to feel fabulous in your special moment, so keep me posted on how I can help.

I'm excited to dance with you!
